Upper Deck Redemption Taking 5 Months!!!!

Back in April, I opened a box of 05-06 UD Hardcourt Basketball. Pulled a redemption card for Dual Signature
Hardwood Rashad McCants/Deron Williams. Finally pulled something that should have some value since there are only 10 each of these. Immediately went to UD website and on-lined the redemption. That was April 17,2006 and to date the status has never changed--Waiting for athlete(s) to sign. I even called Upper Deck once to find out how long and got some BS that the redemption was close to being fufilled and would get a call or e-mail verifying this. That was at the beginning of August. Doesn't Upper Deck have a policy that they either fill the redemption within 12 weeks or offer something of similar value??? I figure that this card should retail at $200+ since the Williams auto alone has a Beckett value of $150.
Any ideas as how to proceed now??? Should I just wait it out??

This is the norm for UD. They already have your money, whats the hurry? You have the right to get another card from them. They ask you
to send a list of 5 guys you want...if you are ok with that then do that, but from experience, that never turns out good and they think
that 10 15 dollar jersey cards are just the same as a 150 dollar auto!

You want to lay down the law when you call. Tell them you need a list of replacments and you will chose from that. They will try to screw
you. Remember this is their fault not yours! If you aren't happy then send it back!

  • I waited for forever(7 months) on a McNabb auto #'d out of 25 from 2005 SP Authentic football. Just got it back on 8/7 and sold it on Ebay for a whole $40. They will replace it but it's hard for them to put a value on such low numbered stuff. I would just wait it out if I were you.
  • i had better luck with donruss this year my 06 football classic auto came back in 4 weeks though its been 2 months and counting on my topps derrek lee redemption

Upper Deck is run by a bunch of crooks.

They epitomise the greed that is within the hobby.

they create rarity where none should exist.

oh, did I mention that they are a bunch of sleaze balls?

Good question, I don't know what to tell you to do. Kevin (JoeStalin) deals alot in modern stuff so his advice is probably right on.

Not trying to "one up" you but wanted to let you know what can happen if you wait.

I just checked my redemption status, I bought one pack of 2005 spx football, one auto per box, and pulled a rookie game used/auto of Steelers tight end Heath Miller. Decent pull. I entered it into the system on August 24th, 2005.

    NOTHING YET.

I tried calling when I was into it about as far as you are and was offered a card of equal value or told I could wait longer. The exact card offered never came up as I decided to wait a little longer. If it weren't for posts like this that come up from time to time, I'd probably forget about it. Maybe that's what they are hoping for.

After a Super Bowl win and then starting the season off with an 87 yard "touchdown", Heath Miller rookie auto's might bring some decent money, but the market isn't moving on this card because no one has it yet. It books at $60 and I just don't see me exchanging.

My other problem is the rep told me they can't exchange every card for a Peyton Manning or Ken Griffey auto because a lot of people like them and they wouldn't have enough. I live in Southern Indiana about 50 miles from Indianapolis and 50 miles from Cincinnati and those are ACTUALLY the guys I like and I DESPISE EVERY OTHER FREAKIN' TEAM. So who would I exchange for if I can't have one of them???

Hope yours goes better than mine in the end. I'm still waiting, too.

Also would like to add that I pulled a 2005 rookie auto helmet card of the Patriots Ben Watson that was numbered to 50 or 100, can't remember

The top layer of the card was peeling so I sent it back to upper deck for an exchange.

They sent me another Ben Watson auto card in about two weeks.

So a card numbered to 50 they've got to send me, one numbered to 1275 and I can't get it.

You've got me wanting to call and really start complaining now.

    Hey Guys,
After my experience with the Upper Deck bait and switch redemption, I will never buy another Upper Deck redemption card again.

I have never received the card I was supposed to get. I bought a 2002 UD Graded Joey Harrington Gold Redemption, got a normal one. A 2002 SPX Shockey Redemption, got a non-autographed card. A 2005 Carnell Williams, got a Heath Miller.

Upper Deck is run by a bunch of scams. I hope Topps get their act together and beats them. I have never had a problem with Topps redemptions.

  • 5 months is NOTHING...

I had a card take 10.5 months from Donruss...

It was worth $400 when I sent it in...and $150 when I got it back...GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

for this reason and others, I won't even stock Donruss material at my store any longer.

A simple solution would be: only use redemptions for what they actually have in hand. if anyone else tried what these crooks do everyone here would be saying scam. how had is it to actually have what they claim on hand before they create this junk?

    Good for you.
  • Thanks everyone for your input. I really hate redemptions because as noted by many of you the turn-around time is terrible (especially for "rare" cards), value can drop and you are not guaranteed what you
pulled. I thought that the hobby went thru discussion this a few years ago and the card companies were going to get away from redemptions and at the very least have the cards in hand if they did have a redemption. I guess it's like a lot of things, it looks great on paper to tell people that they have cleaned-up their act, but another to actually follow-through and do it!! Well I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed, buy non UD products and hope for the best.

  • That is why I sell the redemption card unless it is something I really want.
  • File a complaint with the FTC for deceptive trade practices. Seems cut and dry to me.
Everything I write is my opinion.

    Looking for alot of crap.
  • i've got 2 from march 06 i'm still waiting for, one was never produced, they haven't decided what they'll replace it with yet, one they say shipped but never arrived. I've sent 15+ emails to customer service, and not one reply that they would look into it.
its not right, its basically like playing the lottery, winning a prize, sending in your ticket and then never getting the prize, it stinks!

    aarrgghh!!
